Bulging Disk and Yoga

A few weeks back I was enjoying my last of 10 yoga classes and attempted a headstand, I didn’t stay upward for to long before my feet flopped gracefully forward. It was a really cool feeling how as I adjusted the location of my elbows, my legs just floated upward and then landed so nicely (a yogis moment as my instructor put it). Or so I thought, I didn’t think at all how unnatural, at least for me, that movement was.
Later that day, I started to feel what I thought was sciatic nerver pain, which continued on for 2 weeks before I went to the doctor knowing this pain was more than just the sciatic nerve. I was diagnosed with a bulging disk and had to promise no exercise (except walking) or lifting anything for 2 weeks. When I told the doctor that the pain felt better when exercising (and what kinds of exercise I had been doing), she was really concerned and threaten surgery if I didn’t “sit the bench,” as she put it. She even jokingly called me a exercise junky. So here I am on day three with no exercising and itching to run with pain that is worse I am just sitting around.
And no, I’m not giving up yoga (to many positive benefits). Just going to be careful in the future.

This weekend started out slow with only a scheduled play-date with 2 daycare friends, who happened to be brother and sister just months older than DS and DD. We have enjoyed a few play-dates/birthday parties with them over the last 2 years. I kind of wish we had planned more time together (now that we are leaving.) Here are the kids playing with their friend’s car. They actually did quite well for 4 kids to 1 single seat car.
And now enjoying dress up:
Sunday morning started with a trip to the new Dunkin Donuts that opened near our old house. We all enjoyed a few donut holes, as well as some coffee for myself.
Then it was off to another park we’ve enjoyed over the last few years. Today it was Laurel Hills park in Raleigh to play, walk, and watch the ducks.
Sunday afternoon I baked a Coca-Cola cake with the kids. I never bake, but DP requested it and since the first time we tried this cake was here in NC at a Cracker Barrel, I agreed to the idea. DP even went and bought the ingredients.
The weekend ended with a nice girls moment of painting our nails (we’ve had a rough few weeks). Of course, DD insisted I do mine as well.
