The Sale and Final Count Down

I’m finally getting around to blog again and it’s been a busy month and a half.

Just 100 days after our house was placed on the market to sale, we received an offer. :) At the time I thought I would be able to relax, but little did I know the craziness to come. We had an idea an offer was coming but it took a week to actually have something in writing, We were about to replace the kitchen floor due to some broken tiles, but thankfully the buyer was interested in putting hardwoods in. That saved us a couple thousand dollars. :) The offer was low, we countered and the buyer accepted (getting the price we expected). We had to keep the house spotless for any other showings until the due diligence date, which was about a month later.

Next I had to worry about the inspection, which turned out not so bad, just a bunch of little repairs, and our contractor through our realtor was amazing and completed them all for us. And then the time came for the closing, First the date was moved a week later, than they came back wanting an earlier close, then the mortgage company wanted to do the closing themselves without an outside attorney. Our realtor and buyers realtor fought for both of us for an outside attorney and we finally closed a week and half later than originally planned. Each day up until actually signing the papers we were told everything was ready then something else would come up to delay it. End the end I was just so relieved to finally sign the papers. During the last week we also moved into an apartment, which has been an adjustment it itself. I was finally able to relax a little, but now to plan our big move to Oregon.

DP wanted me to count down the weeks until our move and it worked out that we only had 10 week left. We decided to enjoy our favorite spots each weekend until the move.

The first weekend we want to Marbles kids museum on Saturday followed my a nice outdoor lunch at Mellow Mushroom. On Sunday we went to Shelly Lake to feed the ducks and enjoy a walk around the lake. During the last 1/2 mile it started to rain and we weren’t able to play at the playground, we ended up going back the next weekend.

The second weekend we went to a birthday party at a new bounce house in Cary, NC. The kids and DP loved it, lots of bouncy fun and Wii’s for adults. I enjoyed the adult conversations. :) On Sunday we went back to Shelly Lake and enjoyed the playground equipment. DS climbed a rock wall for the first time. :)

Finally this weekend, we spent today at the Museum of life and Science in Durham, NC and had lunch at a local favorite, Elmo’s diner.

On a more personal health and fitness note, I continue to exercise 3/4 times a week and try to make smart food choices daily. I need this balance to lessen the stress and busyness of work and planning the move. I am including few pics food as well.

Eggs with green beans

Indian Lunch

Salad

Home made smoothie with hemp granola

Ready to Start

“Now I’m ready to start
I would rather be wrong
Than live in the shadows of your song
My mind is open wide
And now I’m ready to start
You’re not sure, you open the door
And step out into the dark
Now I’m ready”
- Arcade Fire “Ready to Start”

I started this blog post back in August when I turned 30 but never finished it. A couple weeks before my birthday my DP randomly stated “lets move to Oregon” and jokingly I said sure. Now, here we are today with our house officially on the market, the final hurdle on our way to a new life.

The lyrics above is part of a song that puts words to our decision. We have changed our view on life to actually living and not just letting it pass us by.  Why Oregon you may ask? Back when we were in school, before I even wanted to get married, DP worked a coop there and we both fell in love with what Oregon and the life it represented. We decided we would move there some day, but it probably wouldn’t be until we retired. It was the beginning of planning a real future together. :) But why wait.

Three years ago we discussed moving but it was quickly decided against out of fear, difficulty of selling the house, and finding out I was pregnant with DD. And now we are actually doing it, taking fear out of the equation made it realistic and exciting. The timing is perfect with my interest in going back to school for a new career.

The process has included much planning and steps to de-clutter our house. And as a result has lead to a freeing de-cluttering of myself and allowing me to realize what is really important to me. As we sold or gave away items that were just collecting dust, it was therapeutic and felt like a heavy weight was lifted off my chest.

Our decision was hard to keep quiet, but now with the house on the market I can fully enjoy my excitement. And even though we are moving farther away from family, we will be able to fly home in a matter of hours and not have to deal with stressful 2 day road trips, which in the end will allow more time for what’s important.

This last week has been stressful and a true test to our relationship. We are a strong team and are truly making life changes together. I love DP more every day.

Here’s some pics to help us remember how far we’ve come and to keep us from getting discouraged if our house doesn’t sell. And if it doesn’t, we are still LIVING our lives.
