Career
September 21st, 2011
My career plans are currently on hold after our move to Portland, OR. I have to wait a year to obtain residency and find a part time job to help pay for school. In the mean time, I have started reading and am really enjoying it now. I wasn’t ever much of a reader and (shamefully admitting) rarely ever finished a required reading in school. I have been focusing on nutrition related books and trying to throw in a few (classic) fictions as well. See also Book Lists

First attempt at the GRE’s. We decided to put our house on the market after I registered, which took away from preparing as much as I would like to have. I went into the exam thinking of it as a practice test and came out of it knowing I need to focus on vocab. I plan on taking it again in a few months after some major vocab studying and when things calm down with the house being on the market.

Registered for GRE Prep Class – It’s kind of scary and exciting that my plans are moving forward.

I see a career change in my future
Since this summer I have grown a huge interest in food and nutrition and how it affects our overall health. I have been interested in a career change for sometime and would really like to help others, so I have decided to apply to the Masters in Nutrition program (this would allow me to combine these interest) at a local university. I eventually would like to become an Registered Dietitian (RD).
Step 1: Figure out if this is really what I want to do.
Step 2: Figure out how long it would take me to finish and what steps I need to take along the way.
Step 3: Prepare for the GRE’s
Step 4: Apply
Step 5: Start working on the 4 undergrad classes I need in order to start the Masters program
Step 6: Wait to see if I am accepted or not
Step 7: Start Grad Classes
… and do this all while working full-time and taking care of my family with the support of my DP
